Staying Off The Path of The Destroyer

Psalm 17:4 says "concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips, I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer."

David was a man with a passionate heart for God. He is even referred to in scriptures as a man after God's heart. How did he get the Father's attention? Well yes he was a worshiper,a praiser and a wonderful giver but what really got God's attention concerning David was his heart and his attitude to God's word. Looking through the entire psalms it is very clear how this man's heart went out to God and his word. God's word was the template for his life and the basis for his passion. He was an ardent doer of the word and this sure got the Father's attention. Life is ridden with challenges and obstacles that obscure us from our dreams but one fact is clear. The man who fears the Lord is the man who does His word and gives the right priority to the word. Let's dig in dipper and see what thIs great man is saying to us today by the Spirit  of God

I have laid a foundation by showing us why the Father loved David so much. " ...by the words of thy lips (the spoken word, words of the lips are spoked. Instructions from the teaching of God's word and prophecy) I ( personal responsibility) have kept me (aware of and is consistently doing it) from the paths of the destroyer." look at the previous verse "... I am purposes that my mouth shall not transgress." Two things are clear about David from what we see and we must pay close attention. Firstly, he gave attention to hearing the word ( vs4) and secondly, he gave attention to aligning his speech daily to conform to what he was hearing (vs3). The truth is that what we incline our ears to, influences our speech. His son observed in the book of proverbs that life and death are in the power of the tongue. That sure does not refer to the organ called tongue, but alludes to words. The tongue is the organ of speech and words have power. As a matter of principle (which is valid in heaven, earth and hell) every word has its material equivalent and every spoken word attracts its material equivalent. No wonder it is written that the Word will not lack it's mate.

Where am I going with all this? The words of your mouth and the meditations of your heart. David prayed that the words of his mouth and the meditations of his heart be acceptable in the sight of God. Why did he pray like that? Jesus answered that for us when He said that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. But how does the heart have its abundance? The senses and that includes the hearing of words. This is why Jesus warned His disciples in mark 4:24-25 to be careful what they gave ear to. That applies to us you know.

When the spirit and soul is consistently exposed to the wrong stuff, the mouth will only utter wrong words. Words set the course of creation, words are still setting the course of life and destinies. Transgression  in words refers to every utterance contrary to the will of God and with the intent of setting negatives in motion. Whether you accept this or not, your words set angels or demons in motion depending on what your consistent confession is. In essence, words carve out paths. When we say wrong words or confess negativity and fear, we carve paths of destruction. Whatever
we feel on the inside is set in motion physically by speaking words inline with what is happening inside. This is why we cannot or do not think prayer,we say prayer. Similarly, we do not " think" blessing,we say it in order to bless. Same is true about cursing!

Ergo, what is the path of the destroyer? It is the path carved out by wrong confessions,of fear, worry, discouragement and anxiety. It is also the path carved out by idle words and words of abuse ( beware! ). The end of this path is destruction.

To stay off this path, stay off wrong talking. Like I have already said, give attention to hearing gthe right things. Nothing can give you the correct information about yourself but the word of God. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing and that is the hearing of the word of God. The spoken word sets faith in motion in your spirit and that is what it takes to get the job done. Start talking to yourself and then to every undesirable situation in your life. Start talking God's word concerning that situation and not what you are seeing or feeling. We walk by faith and not by sight and that faith calls those things which be not as though they were.

Right talking is the answer. This is the process or activity by which you will stay off the path of the destroyer. Talking the word results from making the word lord in your life and by this I mean giving the word of God it's rightful priority. You will continue to attract the undesirable by saying the undesirable if your lifestyle is devoid os attending to reading, meditation, hearing and confession, the four habits that hide the word in your heart. Remember,as a man thinks in his heart,so he is (prov 23:7) And you are saved or condemned by the words of your mouth (Matt 12:37) so give the word right of way in your thoughts and in your words. Have a great life.

The Grace of Our Lord Jesus, the love of God and communion with the Spirit

On the Grace of our Lord, the Father's love and the communion of the Spirit in the life of the Believer. 2Cor 13:14 is a portion of Scripture quoted so often in church that the mention of it brings closing of service or benediction to mind. In this portion of Scripture which indeed is a prayer, is hidden an eternally powerful truth. It is my confidence that the Spirit of God by the will of God will shed light on our spirits as we seek the light of this truth, embrace it and apply it daily in our walk with God. It says "the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all". What a prayer! First it is seen in this prayer, THE WORD, THE FATHER and THE SPIRIT. Once upon a time, in the beginning of time, there was a convocation and in that meeting, Elohim, was there with The Logos and His Pneuma, and the result was creation. What if there is a creative mystery embedded in this prayer in the life of a believer? What ...

On Fear, Doubt and Unbelief

Faith is central in the Christian life. The bible says in Heb 11:6 that it is impossible to please God without faith. Pleasing Him is being accepted of Him. This means that though the sinner has been vindicated by the blood of Jesus, his believing in that sacrifice and its efficacy in his favor, makes him acceptable to God. His faith pleases God. The righteousness of God imputed to man in Christ by faith is how we please God. Scripture also says that this man who has so pleased God should live by the same means by which he pleased God (Hab 2:4; Rom 1:17; Gal 3:11; Heb 10:38). Col 2:6 says that we must continue our walk in Christ AS as we received Him (in the first place). You have pleased God. Your faith in the sacrifice of the Lamb and in the work of redemption  and all it represents for you, has made you "...accepted in the beloved" (Eph 1:6). You maintain this state of favor with God by living in the consciousness of it. This is living BY FAITH.   In our faith life how...

Thankful Thinking and Thanksgiving

I have a thought to share this morning. It is on the Thankful thinking and Thanksgiving.  One book of the Bible I really love is the Psalms. I love it because I can identify with it. It is a picture of the relationship between humanness and divinity, insufficiency and all-suffifiency, fallibility and grace. It is a picture of us and God, us swallowed in as we are, in His accommodating grace. David, expresses the principle of the success of this relationship in faith (conviction), trust and absolute dependence.  Thanks flows from a mind that acknowledges provision from a posture of dependence. Paul said we have no bragging rights because there is nothing we have that we have not received (1 Co 4:7). Our ingratitude therefore comes from our ignorance of our plant-to-soil kind of relationship with divinity as set forth by the law of creation: no creature is independent of its creator, every creature draws sustenance from its creator, the creator is source and sustainer of...
