We witness a display of man's tendency for a unified system in the Babel episode as recorded in the book of genesis. Here we see man uniting and making himself mighty in a "one world" government. I want to answer two questions that arise from that episode: Was man's crave for a one world government (and that crave is still unsatisfied) an accident? Also, was God's refusal justified?
"Orbis Unum" is the latin for "one world" and this has been the direction that world politics has been heading. From the time of Nimrod, to the Pharohes of Egypt, to Nebuchadnezzar, to Dairus, to Alexander the great, to Julius Ceasar, the list is endless. The primary motive that drove the manifestation of their dominion was Orbis Unum. Believe it or not, the Roman Catholic Church joined the party and Islam is about Orbis Unum. Why then is this drive towards a one world system? Understanding this will give insight into the direction that world politics is heading today. The European Union, African Union, United nations, Continental currencies et cetera, are indications in our time of this drift towards Orbis uinum- one world.
Man's crave for a unified system is not an accident. It is the revelation of an intricinc innate nature in man: the will and tendency to dominate. It is a response to a divine mandate.
When God made man, he put in him the ability to take charge, subjugate, rule, exercise authority and dominate. In fact, man's divine mandate upon the earth was to dorminate the earth, so it is not an accident that we are always right in our own way, that we seek to impose ourselves on others and that we seek to exerise dominion in our spheres of influence. Hitler's ambition is no acident, Alexander was not greedy, Ceasar was not drunk. They all, as much as we want to, were expressing the ruler in them.
Every craft and trade, every faith and creed, every dynasty and dispensation, from ages passed to our time and till the end of the time of man, there will always be one focus- Orbis unum. However we se throughout history the many failures at the attempt of establishing a one world order. If you are a follower of history, you will notice that the rise of every empire was driven by a man's desire for a change which can only be expressed on a platform of absolute power and the fall was driven by corruption and decay. I want to ask, is it that there is something in man that causes every thing he builds to self destruct?
Sin is self consciousness triggered by spiritual death. We will never be able to grasp the depth of the sin problem and understend why it was expedient for God to intervein unless we understand that sin is the consequence of spiritual death. In dying man died, so there is no way man can bring about life in any venture he undertakes. Whatever it is that we build, it eventually falls into decay because the innate corruption in man always gets the better of him. Every maneouver, either politically or diplomatically, to create a one world order has met with destruction. Our much celebrated democracy will meet the same fate (If you mirror world politics in the light of God's word you will ssee this clearly). I am no prophet of doom but you will have noticed that governments all over the world are failing. Other systems of administration of state are collapsing and giving way to democracy which is the last maneouver that will birth the one world order of the anti-christ. He will not usurp power from the world, the world wil of her own free will, elect him because he will be a papacea to the world's problems (or will he be?). Eventually, this will collapse for thesame reason cited earlier.
In the light of the foregoing, God's refusal for a man led one world order is justified because man could not play out divine plan in an unredeemed state. This will only lead to the establishment of a corrupt order. God raises and casts down who he wills because he is trying to teach us something. He has every say in the affairs of men and we are nothing without him. Man was designed to function in God. Man (in God's plan) is an extension and expression of divine order and authority from eternity, a translation of an eternal God in the physical realm. However, this divine purpose can only be expressed as long as man remains in the presence of the Father and is sustained by His life and nature. Redemption goes beyond destroying sin, it is the full reconciliation of man to God by the destruction of Sin in the flesh, so that man can feature in the Father's picture.
In the realm of the supernatural, all has been settled. Time however gives expression to the process that translates the verdict of the supernatural into tangible substance in the physical. World events simply play out a settled outcome in the spiritual, ergo. At the fulness of time, the Christ ruled one world order will emerge. Christ ruled because He is both man and god, the perfected image of the god-man as the father originally intended it in tih first Adam. Do you want to reign with Him? He loves you and he is inviting you to join Him to rule the universe. Only believe that he is God's son and that He died and rose for your salvation and justification. It's that simple!
